I sold ComputerRepairDirectory.com for around $4500, when I could have easily gotten 2 or 3 times that amount.

No worries, I’m currently developing PCRepairLocator.com, which will, eventually, generate equal or higher income.

The site is still brand new and not completely what I want it to be.

I used Digital Point. Because I was totally inexperience I bought from someone that had a good rating and had sold sites before. I also used PayPal like you suggested.

The only other thing I can recommend is to make sure any transactions go through your Credit Card and keep good records of all emails. The credit card companies will not pay for any disputed transactions.

yes, I think I am interested.
the site is actually very new.
But I see a great potential with it.

Domain name alone should speak for itself.

I’ve just in the process of getting a domain which I paid $250 for.

I bought it because it is page rank 4 and on two important keywords – what is a blog? and blog tutorials- and it gets around 4 and 5 position on the front page of Google.

The site only consists of 8 php pages.

I assume that is a reasonable site to buy at this price.

I already have quite a bit of content in this niche.

I have the problem do I abandon my existing blog and transfer everything to the new blog?

Alternatively do I use the new blog to drive traffic to the new blog?

Or do I develop the two blogs in parallel keeping my longer, chattier posts on my existing blog and then cutting down the content to very short, minimalist, very factual posts – to try and aim to get two different audiences?

Most of the sites that I buy/sell are just small sites so I prefer to just transact without using Escrow. For the most part, people who have good feedbacks in Flippa don’t really give me problems as far as transacting with them. But for others, people really have to be wary of them. There are just so many junk sites claiming to be making $XXXX being sold there.

and also the idea of flipping websites is dead. 🙂

Right now it doesn’t have any traffic or monetized. Seller replied “We do not have it listed for sale, however, a strong offer may persuade us to part with it. ”

How to come up with the best offer?

I’ll bookmark this page as a reference in the future when my resources will be able to support buying them, but right now I am building niche sites and promoting them all myself from scratch. Hard work but worth the experience learned.

I hope you will also write an article the other way around about selling websites. I plan to sell niche sites as soon as I make them profitable.

Though most sites there seem to be inactive – which means you might get a good name and page rank, but no income.

You do get some people on Sedo with unrealistic expectations. I was trying to buy a domain for a friend and someone was trying to sell just the domain for $2,000. We didn’t deal and I note a year on the domain has just been dumped.

I bought my domain for its page ranking, 4, despite the fact it hadn’t been updated since 2004. As it’s very similar to a project I’m working on and as I already have a lot of potential content for it.

It’ll be interesting to see how it goes.

SEO is just one way to generate traffic. There are several others, so having search traffic is not a must (though useful).

What if we buy website but it’s not SEO friendly then you have to make it from the scratch.

After that we have to be sure about the ROI and to make a business plan for the web-site.

I’ve bought several websites over the years and I always go for 12x the monthly. Any more than that feels so risky!

I’m usually in the profit range after 6 to 10 months 🙂

I liked this post & the way the information is presented. Complete & insightful. Using Escrow & Paypal for transactions & the scenarios you’ve explained are excellent.
